Hyer has a wonderful library with over 16,000 books. It is open to all students at Hyer Elementary and their parents. From 8:00 - 9:00 each morning the library is open to all for checking out books.  Classes are scheduled from 9:00 to 3:30 for 30 minutes on a weekly basis. Every class comes to the library two times a week. In addition to
our Libraian, Janet Peters and our Library Assistant, Lindsay Pierce, a host of volunteers work to make the Hyer Library an important element in the school's rich learning environment.   Our goal in the library is to make literature come alive and to help every student find their JRB (Just Right Book) !!!

Library Programs

American Girl Book Club

This club meets one Thursday morning a month at 7:30 AM to 8:00. It is a group of K through 4th grade girls that share an interest in American Girl Dolls and their Historical Fiction books. The girls study one doll a month, They learn about their heritage, participate in a craft and read aloud portions of the girl's adventures.

Accelerated Reader (AR)

The library has over 6,600 AR tests on levels 1.0 to 10.0. The books are marked according to their AR level. Books with AR tests are noted in the Library On-Line Catalog.

Birthday Book Program

This is a program that supports the library's collection.  For $18.00 a family can dedicate a book to the library in honor or memory of someone special.  This program is a major source of funding for new library books and is a wonderful way to honor someone.  It is available in the first day of school registration or from the library office.  A bookplate is placed in each book commemorating the gift.

Bluebonnet Reading Program

All 3rd and 4th graders are eligible for the Bluebonnet Reading Program.  This program allows Hyer students to join students statewide to vote for the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award.  To be eligible, students must read a minimum of 5 of the nominated books for that year.  In January, all eligible students come to the library for a Bluebonnet Voting Party.  The library has multiple copies of each book . The Bluebonnet books are located on the Bluebonnet counter in the library.

Library BookFair

Each Fall, the library has a Bookfair the first full week in November. This BookFair brings wonderful new books to Hyer students and is a major means of financial support for  our library collection.
